Growing Talent From Within

At Rotherwood Healthcare we believe in growing talent from within and we do this by providing clear development pathways for each of our team members throughout the company.

If an individual has the desire and ambition to pursue a career with us, then we will ensure that they are given every opportunity to make that happen. As well as offering continuous support and appropriate, comprehensive training, we also have a series of widely-recognised stepping stones which help our employees identify and understand their own personal route to promotion.

Whether it is moving from Carer to Senior Carer, developing nursing skills to become Nurse Assistants, expanding responsibilities to take up the position of Team Leaders and Quality Assurance Officers or taking that step to become the respected Home Manager, the opportunity to progress within Rotherwood is clear, achievable, and highly encouraged.

We truly value the skills and dedication our people illustrate on a daily basis across our homes, and we feel incredibly proud when we witness personal development and personal success within our teams.

Louise Craddock
Louise has worked in adult health and social care for 15 years.

Whilst working for a domiciliary care provider as a Carer, Louise progressed through the ranks. She became a mentor, taking responsibility for the induction of new staff and enabling her team to shadow her to build their own confidence. Great success in this role eventually led her to teaching Health and Social Care in the classroom.

Whilst Louise’s initial teaching area was Moving and Handling, she went on to cover Medication and First Aid. She undertook additional training to become a Trainer and Assessor, and this then enabled her to deliver courses for all health and social care requirements, including care certificate standards, NVQ’s etc.

When Louise came to Rotherwood Healthcare in May 2020 she obviously already had a breadth of experience, especially that gained in her the role as Quality Assurance Officer. In this position she was responsible for implementing and updating care plans and risk assessments and undertook the management of medications. Her particular focus was on the auditing of daily checks such as care plans, MAR charts, resident's weight records, food and fluid intakes etc. but Louise also effectively liaised with external professionals such as the DoLS teams, arranging capacity assessments and appointments and assisting the GP on their rounds.

From the very beginning of her time with us, Louise excelled in fulfilling her responsibilities as Quality Assurance Officer and she therefore rapidly progressed to the position of Home Manager at Hampton Grange and Gwen Walford House. These Rotherwood homes in Hereford had an excellent reputation for the quality of their residential, nursing and Dementia care so, as you can imagine, this appointment required a high level of confidence!

Now, very much settled in the position of Home Manager, Louise particularly enjoys interacting with the residents and getting to know them all on an individual basis. She has a strong belief in implementing a resident’s very particular needs into their care plans in order to ensure that they are entirely person-centred. Louise uses all of her 15 years of experience when undertaking the daily requirements of her role, but it is her ability to lead by example which has earned the respect of her team, and which makes her such a valued member of Rotherwood Healthcare.

Chelsie Hammond
Chelsie Hammond was appointed as Manager of St. Georges Park - our specialist Dementia Nursing Home located in Telford - in September 2021.

Having worked within Rotherwood Healthcare for three years prior to becoming Home Manager, Chelsie enthusiastically grasped every opportunity for self-development, illustrating the wide variety of valued skills and positive attitude that this high-level role demands.

Upon leaving University, Chelsie spent two years training to be a nurse and then moved into Domiciliary Care. As soon as she joined the Rotherwood team she proved her ability and quickly progressed from her initial role as Senior Healthcare Assistant to Nurse Assistant, then Compliance Lead and finally Quality Assurance Officer (a position which saw her play a crucial part in ensuring that St George’s Park retained their ‘good’ rating with the Care Quality Commission).

Chelsie’s skills and capabilities have never been in question, but it is probably her ‘lead by example’ attitude which made her an obvious choice for Home Manager. Never afraid to get her hands dirty, if Chelsie sees something needs doing she does it! If the team are overwhelmed with workload she will support them and always has a welcoming open door policy - for staff, residents and their families. Her willingness to dedicate time to those who need it is well known throughout the home and many of the residents will spend hours with her, sharing memories or simply having a chat.

Chelsie genuinely enjoys spending quality time getting to know everything that’s going on with the individual residents at St George’s, but says her love of the job also comes from the fact she feels Rotherwood is so supportive, treating both staff and residents with dignity and respect. This is high praise indeed from someone who has such a recognised person-centred, non-judgmental approach, valuing the contribution of her entire team, from the Carers to ancillary staff.
