Growing with Rotherwood: Megan’s Journey from Kington Court to the Regional Quality Team
Megan’s career in care began at Kington Court, before Rotherwood took ownership of the home. Working night shifts as a carer while studying for her Law degree, she initially saw the role as something to fit around her studies. But she soon discovered how much she enjoyed working in care and, particularly, the relationships she built with residents.
After graduating, Megan joined Rotherwood Healthcare as a Quality Assurance Officer at Lynhales Hall in 2022. With an interest in compliance, a methodical approach to problem-solving and a keen eye for detail, the role gave her an opportunity to build on the skills developed through her degree while continuing to develop her career in care.
During her time at Lynhales, Megan became increasingly involved in strengthening processes, embedding Rotherwood’s approach and supporting improvements across the home.
When Rotherwood acquired Kington Court, Megan was asked to support the integration from her role at sister home Lynhales Hall. Having previously worked at Kington as a carer, she already knew the home and its team well, making her experience particularly valuable during the transition. She supported the Operations team in establishing Rotherwood’s processes and values at the home, before being offered the opportunity to return to Kington as Quality Assurance Officer.
Over the following four years, Megan played an important role in developing and embedding processes across Kington, including admissions, medication and auditing. As the team worked through the changes, she also helped drive improvements in audit performance.
For Megan, seeing those changes translate into better outcomes was one of the most rewarding parts of her role. Feedback from visiting healthcare professionals, who commented on the thorough and detailed care plans at Kington, was particularly meaningful.
“Comments like that stayed with me because it made me feel like we’re doing something right.”
Megan has now progressed to the role of Regional Quality Assurance Officer, bringing the experience she gained at Kington to support teams across the Rotherwood Group.
Her role involves working alongside Home Managers, Clinical Leads, Nurses and Carers, providing guidance around personalised care planning and helping teams better understand and support each resident as an individual.
A key part of this has been supporting the rollout of INSPIRE, coaching nurses and care teams to take care planning further by looking beyond clinical needs and considering residents’ individual preferences, including their likes, dislikes and what a good day looks like for them.
Megan has already seen positive changes in audit scores, care planning and staff confidence following these sessions. For her, however, the role is about more than processes and audits. It is also about building relationships and being someone colleagues feel comfortable approaching for support.
“It’s great to have that relationship with team members and if they feel like they’re struggling or have a question, they can just come and ask me.”
Outside of work, Megan spends much of her time with her two horses, including retraining her current gelding, who was previously a racehorse by Frankel.
From starting out as a night carer while studying for her Law degree to becoming part of Rotherwood’s Regional Quality Team, Megan’s career has progressed significantly, with each role building on the experience and knowledge she has gained along the way.
She has grown in confidence, taken on new challenges and continued to develop her skills, finding new ways to make a difference across Rotherwood.
Now, as she begins the next chapter of her career, Megan is looking forward to continuing to support colleagues across Rotherwood and seeing where the journey takes her next.
