Rotherwood Remembers

With November fast approaching we remember those servicemen and women who lost their lives in the line of duty.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic Remembrance Day will be a different affair this year as the annual Remembrance Sunday March Past the Cenotaph will not take place. Despite the changes this year The Royal British Legion are encouraging people across the United Kingdom to ensure Remembrance Sunday is still marked appropriately by socially distanced Remembrance activity and observing the two minute silence, Rotherwood Healthcare accepted the invitation.

To mark Remembrance Day this year staff and residents at Hampton Grange and Gwen Walford Nursing Home have taken on a huge task. 2,500 poppies have been carefully sewn onto a piece of strategically cut netting, that when hung, give the effect of a waterfall of poppies cascading down the beautiful Victorian building. Hampton Grange has a long association with caring for the armed forces with the home having been used to nurse servicemen blinded in combat during World War Two.

It’s been a very difficult year with the pandemic causing huge disturbances to everyday life and this has been felt especially hard by nursing homes that have had to shield residents and protect their staff. Despite these circumstances Rotherwood Healthcare’s Hereford teams have performed their roles to an incredible standard with five members being put forward as finalists at Hereford’s Health and Social Care Awards, and two going on to win. The healthcare teams that have braved possible infection to nurse, entertain and care for elderly people during this time are a credit to the profession and the nation is in their debt.

Dan Bridges, the Home Manager for Hampton Grange and Gwen Walford had this to say: “I’m so proud of what the team and residents have achieved in remembering those that have fallen in the line of duty.”
